Municipal council, Samrala is a B class committee under the Dept. Local Govt., Punjab, Chandigarh. As per the latest census its population is 17610.

Total area under Municipal council, Samrala is 6.68 sq. km..It consists of 13 wards.

The main functions of the Municipal council includes to provide pure water, sewerage facilities, street light, to develop the area by construction of drains, roads, to provide fresh environment through sanitation services. Municipal council provide all those facilities out of funds generated from octroi , house tax , water supply , building application fees, excise duty , grants received from govt.

From the education point of view there is one ITI, a college , 17 schools out of which two Govt. Sr. Sec. school , one Sr. Sec. School is under the control of the SGPC, Five primary schools are there.

From the health point of view mainly there is one civil hospital, a homeopathic dispensary, an ayurvedic dispensary and three private nursing homes.

Facilities offered by department include street light, pure water, sanitation services, sewerage facilities, development of area by construction of roads, drains, spray of insecticides to have disease free environment.

At present sewerage project worth Rs. 5.80 crores is under process in Samrala. Executing agency is Punjab Water Supply and Sewerage Board.

Budget fixed for the year 2004-05 is Rs 247.50 lacs.During the last financial year MC has 176-92 lacs of income.

MC has earmarked Rs 54.00 lacs for sewerage project of Samrala, Rs 8.00 lacs for roads , Rs 8.00 lacs for drains , Rs 8.00 lacs for C.C. flooring development activities.
